VAT Basics
Course Details
Before analysing a VAT transaction, it is essential to understand the fundamental principles of VAT. This course is designed to introduce the key VAT definitions set out in both local legislation, namely the Malta VAT Act, and European legislation, particularly Council Directive 2006/112/EC. Once these core definitions have been covered, the course will examine the four key elements used to determine whether a transaction falls within the scope of VAT: the territorial aspect of the transaction, the existence of consideration, the nature of the transaction itself, and the person involved in carrying out the transaction.
After establishing that a transaction falls within the scope of VAT, it is necessary to determine the correct VAT treatment by applying a structured and methodical approach. This 6-hour course, delivered over three sessions, aims to provide attendees with a solid understanding of basic VAT definitions and the appropriate approach to analysing VAT transactions.
The sessions will be held on these dates:
- Monday, 30th November, 09:30 AM - 11:30 AM
- Wednesday, 2nd December, 09:30 AM - 11:30 AM
- Friday, 4th December, 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM
